CHEATING / PLAGIARISM POLICY
Below is the BFMS Handbook Policy on cheating and plagiarism.
1. Definition of Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the act of taking and using as one’s own work another’s published or unpublished thoughts, ideas and/or writings. This definition includes computer programs, drawings, artwork and all other types of work, which are not one’s own. Types of plagiarism include word-for-word, mosaic (rearrangement or rewording without documentation) and indirect (paraphrasing of a passage without documentation).
2. A student who cheats on a daily assignment shall receive no credit for the assignment on which s(he) cheats. The teacher will give written notification of the cheating incident to the parents and will provide a copy of the notification to the principal.
3. A student who cheats on a quiz or test or plagiarizes a theme or major paper of any sort shall be given an F or a zero for the quiz, theme, or major paper. The teacher will notify the parents of the cheating. The notification will be made in writing with a copy to the principal. The notification will spell out what happened and the consequences the student will receive.
4. A second offense of items 1 or 2 or any combination of those items will result in a conference with the parents.
